Project Selection - Magazine

One of my aspects of print journalism that might interest me is the use of technology in print journalism to help grow and keep news businesses intact. In the past, people have been using rotary dials and typewriters as their technology for print journalism. In contrast, news businesses now use computers, cell-phones, websites, and social media as methods to disseminate their own news. This growth of technology has led to quicker and easier communication to the public in comparison to the past. For example, The New York Times started using Twitter as a method to spread the news in short messages. They started using this because newspapers were becoming obsolete and many businesses were closing because of this, however, younger generations started to find a use for social media for journalism. Another aspect of print journalism that might interest me is the increased risk of finding information for the sake of journalism. For example, while Nixon was president, he did not want journalists to search for crucial information about him and he illegally searched businesses like the Wall Street Journal if he finds out they did. Another risk of print journalism would be traveling to dangerous locations also for the sake of journalism. This is seen in the Newsroom where a MacKenzie from the Nightly News traveled to Afganistan and Iraq as a reporter. The skill I have that would make the magazine project a good fit for me are that I am a decent writer. However, the challenges are that I struggle with group work because I lack social skill when it comes to new people.
